Please join us on Thursday, February 18th, to hear Tim Peck share with us his insights into the world's best-known mystery writer. Agatha Christie (1890 - 1976) wrote 66 detective novels, 14 short story collections, radio plays and stage dramas (including the world's longest-running play - The Mousetrap), 7 books under pseudonym, and her autobiography. Her books have sold more than a billion copies in the English language and another billion in over 40 foreign languages; Agatha Christie's books are outsold only by The Bible and Shakespeare. Her literary awards include Dame of the British Empire and an honorary degree of Doctor of Literature from Oxford University. Plus, she's just a darn good read. Tim Peck will discuss her life, her books, and her first editions.

Meet the Speaker

Tim Peckisan avid reader, a former high school English teacher, and a retired writer/editor at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Specializing in English and American literature, he has bought, collected, and sold rare books since the mid 1970s. Tim and his wife Frankie split their time between a home in Livermore and a cabin in Calaveras County. Tim's hobbies--in addition to reading and book collecting--include playing music, fishing, and hanging out with family.             Agatha Christie Or, by her full name, Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE (nee Miller, 1890-1976) is often referred to the "Queen of Crime" and is considered to be a master of suspense, plotting, and character development. Most of her books have been adapted for television, radio, video games and comics, and more than thirty feature films have been based on her work.
