How do I tell if a book is a first edition? What IS a first edition? What makes some books worth many hundreds - or thousands - of dollars? How important is condition in determining a book's value? If you have ever wondered about the above... ...please join us on Thursday evening, April 21st, for a discussion about book collecting and the important highlights to understand about the world of collectible books. As you know if you've visited our shop, we have a broad range of books available - "better used", "collectible" and "rare". This month's event is geared towards the book collector - whether an advanced collector or one who just dreams about collecting - to give you some broad knowledge and commonly used terms to prepare you for the adventures of book collecting. The evening will also allow time for those who wish to bring a book for evaluation (one book only per person, please) - so dig out that book you've always wondered about, and bring it with you! Leading the discussion will be your erstwhile proprietor, Laurelle Swan, ably assisted by James Dourgarian, ABAA, and Jeff Elfont. Since seating is limited, please R.S.V.P. to hold a space. There is no charge to attend and light refreshments will be served.

The most ever paid for a book... ...was when the Bay Psalm Book sold at auction in November of 2013, with one of eleven known first editions fetching a breath-taking $ 14.2 million. It was the first book printed in British North America, in 1640.       Whereas the best-selling book of 1907 entitled The Lady of the Decoration, can be yours, in a first edition, for a mere $20 . Because, frankly, no one cares anymore (sorry, Frances).
