Please join us onThursday, May7th,for presentations by four members of the Contra Costa County Historical Society

Whether a California native, or a "transplant" such as myself, there is so much to discover about the County in which we all live. We are honored to be hosting four prominent members of the Contra Costa County Historical Society, each of whom will share with us a little about their area of focus within the county.

Dean McLeod has studied the land and people around Bay Point and Port Chicago for more than 15 years and was a key advocate in the name change of West Pittsburg to Bay Point in 1993. Bill Mero has published numerous articles on local history and, with his wife Kathleen, successfully worked to preserve the stone mansion of Dr. Marsh, the first Anglo settler in CCC. Mary Solon and Mary McCosker gathered photographs and information for the building of the Caldecott Tunnels, from local historical societies, transportation agencies, museums, personal interviews, and other historical sources and will discuss the history of all four of our tunnels. Marvin Shepherd vividly details the 1882 process for acquiring the redwood timberlands and the attitudes of the entrymen and lumbermen that prevailed in the pioneering era which he wrote about in A Scottish Syndicate in the Redwoods.
