Women Artists in America, 18th Century To The Present (1790-1980) (INSCRIBED)

Poughkeepsie, NY: Apollo, 1980. Hardcover. Octavo size, inscribed by Glenn Opitz. Near Fine / Very Good Plus. Item #SB2130

This volume an expanded version, printed in 1980, of an original work done by J. Collins published in 1973. "There is, of course, more to 'Women Artists in America' than the convenience of a biographical listing. While such a work has value merely as a resource, the information supplied here also serves to improve awareness. Women in the arts represent the fact of their existence while also sometimes expressing feminist issues in a creative context". (N.B., from book's Introduction.)

___DESCRIPTION: Brown cloth binding, gilt lettering on the spine, plain endpapers, inscription on the front free endpaper: "12/18/81 | To a "Fellow" Art Buff [underlined] - | Regards, | Glenn (with a flourish beneath)". We believe this is one of the editors, Glenn Opitz, given the inscription; but of course we cannot know for certain. Entries are in alphabetical order, they are interspersed with periodic black and white illustrations of the work of certain artists. Octavo size, the volume is unpaginated, we estimate the volume to be over 800 pages. The dust jacket is plain white with light brown lettering on the front and spine, the front being surrounded by a double ruled border, rounded on the edges; the back panel and both flaps are plain.

___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, straight corners without any rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings; there is some faint rubbing to the bottom of the boards due to normal shelfwear, else fine. The dust jacket is unclipped (although unpriced) and could almost be called near fine; we are grading as very good plus due to a few short closed tears at the head of the spine, minor overall soiling and edgewear.

___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply, please contact seller for details.
