The poems of Charles Pierre Baudelaire (1821-1867) "are described as exhibiting mastery of rhythm and rhyme, containing an exoticism inherited from the Romantics, and are based on observations of real life" (n.b., quote from Wiki). However, Baudelaire was a prolific author and, as well as poetry, was also an essayist and critic.

Perhaps best know for "Les Fleurs de mal", this publication of his complete works includes: Volume I, Les Fleurs du mal, Poesies de Jeunesse, Poesies Diverses, Poesies Ecrites en Collaboration, Poesis Attribuees a Baudelaire, Poesies Retrouvees, Poesies Latines, Poesies Traduites de l'Anglais et de l'Americain, Le Spleen de Paris (Petits Poemes en Prose), Les Paradis Artificiels, Essais et Nouvelles, Theatre, Journaux Intimes, [and] Carnet; Volume II, Critique Litteraire, Critique d'Art, Critique Musicale, Sur la Belgique, Oeuvres en Collaboration, [and] Journalisme Litteraire et Politique.

___DESCRIPTION: Two volumes bound in limp green leatherette over cardboard, gilt rules and lettering on the spines, printed on very thin paper, each volume with two green ribbon markers; binding sixteenmo size (6 7/8" by 4 1/2"), Volume I with 1605 pp. and Volume II with 1691 pp., please note that all text is in French. Both volumes with publisher's mylar coverings, both then encased in a thin cardboard slipcase.

___CONDITION: Volumes fine, the covers clean, straight corners without rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors clean and bright, and both volumes entirely free of prior owner markings; clean and in appearance unread. The mylar coverings near fine with just a few stray marks, the cardboard slipcases also near fine, clean, without rips or tears but both with some creasing.
