Roland Gérard Barthes (1915-1980) "was a French literary theorist, essayist, philosopher, critic, and semiotician. His work engaged in the analysis of a variety of sign systems, mainly derived from Western popular culture. His ideas explored a diverse range of fields and influenced the development of multiple schools of theory, including structuralism, anthropology, literary theory, and post-structuralism" (n.b., from Wiki).
This publication constitutes his complete works: Tome 1 covers 1942 to 1965; Tome 2, 1966 to 1973; and Tome 3, 1974 to 1980.
___DESCRIPTION: Softcovers in wraps, printed on very thin paper, the text entirely in French, the books slide into a half-slipcase, the books largo octavo size (8 3/4" by 5 1/2"), Tome 1 is 1595 pp., Tome 2 is 1748 pp., and Tome 3 is 1360 pp. Note that the slipcases are 9 1/4" tall.
___CONDITION: Volumes all near fine, the wraps clean, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; light creasing to the top corners and top edges and some light dustiness to some of the text block edges. The half-slipcases also near fine, clean other than a stray spot or two, all with a slight separation where the top edge meets the spine, likely from the books being pushed in.
