The second edition of The Book of Ruth printed by the Grabhorns, the first being in a larger format and printed the year previous, and which was one of the Fifty Books of the Year for 1926. The type was not reset for this subsequent edition, and the double columns of the first Book of Ruth were simply used in a single column (n. b., from the Grabhorn Press Bibliography).
___DESCRIPTION: Quarter tan cloth with marbled paper boards in shades of tan, orange and some blue, title in gold on spine, plain endpapers, title and colophon printed in red, coloured headpiece, first word of the text and forty-five coloured initials (in red, blue, green, purple, and turquoise) designed and illuminated by Valenti Angelo; hand-set Gothique Ancienne type, Van Gelder paper, thirty-twomo size (4 1/2" by 3 1/4"), 42 unnumbered pages, one of 250 copies, this number 241. In a slipcase covered in brown paper.
___CONDITION: Fine overall, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; the cloth spine has a bit of sunning, else fine. The slipcase near fine, strong and sturdy, mostly clean other than a few spots on the bottom, with light wear including a very small chip at the bottom of the spine.
