The diverse writings of Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) encompass an array of subjects, from the duality of good and evil in "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde", to stories of heroics and adventures in "Kidnapped" and "Treasure Island".

This work, "A Child's Garden of Verses", has been a favourite for generations of young children and has been reprinted countless times. This version illustrated by Tasha Tudor (1915-2008), whose lovely illustrations bring forth echoes of a simpler time; she wrote and/or illustrated almost 100 books, many of them featuring that delightful breed of dogs, the corgi.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in green cloth with an illustrated paper onlay debossed onto the front board, gilt lettering on the spine, illustrated endpapers (the front and rear endpaper illustrations being different), Tudor's signature in black ink on the front free endpaper with the date of 1989, illustrated title page, publication date of 1947 on both the title and copyright pages, lavishly illustrated throughout with both full colour and black-and-white drawings; binding octavo size (8 1/2" by 6 3/8"), pagination: [1-12] 13-118 [1, blank with small black-and-white drawing]. In the publisher's dust jacket, with an illustrated front panel with black lettering, black lettering on the spine, small illustration on the back panel, summary of the book on the front flap with the price of $3.00 on the lower left corner, author bio and black-and-white photograph on the back flap.

___CONDITION: A solid very good copy, the boards clean, the corners gently bumped with minimal rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright; the sold prior owner marking we see a lightly embossed name at the top corner of the title page, light scattered silverfishing to the boards, the spine sunned and with some wear, and a single leaf (pp. 93-94) with a single vertical crease. The dust jacket also very good, not price-clipped, with all component parts present and attached, the spine sunned, overall light soil and wear including a few very short closed tears at the top of the front panel.
