"The Sermon on the Mount" is among the most widely quoted texts of the Canonical Gospels, most notably the Beatitudes, which exemplify the quintessential elements of mercy and compassion as taught by Jesus Christ. The Sermon on the Mount is the most lengthy sermon from Jesus in the New Testament, occupying chapters 5, 6 and 7 of the Gospel of Matthew.
This Grabhorn Press publication of the "Sermon" is printed on thick paper in a single column, with pilcrows dividing the sections, with a small title page illustration and a beautifully designed initial capital at the start of the text. One of only 190 copies printed, and difficult to find in this condition.
___DESCRIPTION: Original quarter buckram and green paper covered boards, color illustration by Stafford Duncan mounted to upper board, a title page lovely in its simplicity, being only the illustration (same as on the front board) and the title in green, one large pale lavender initial by Stafford Duncan; handset Goudy New Style type, Whatman paper, folio size (15" by 10"), [5] unnumbered leaves, limited edition, one of 190 copies, unnumbered, which were printed for complimentary distribution by the Press in February, 1924.
___CONDITION: A near fine copy, the binding clean other than a few light, stray marks and virtually without wear, the front pastedown unrubbed, the corners straight with just a hint of rubbing, a strong text block with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; light offsetting to the pastedowns and the aforementioned light spots to the boards.
