Willis Linn Jepson (1867-1946) is known as California's most distinguished early botanist, being identified with the University of California, Berkeley, for most of his long career as an instructor in Botany. This publication of "Jepson's Manual" (the title on the dust jacket) has a plethora of material added after the initial 1923 publication (see copyright page for details).
While there are several copies of this book online, as of this writing we see no other copies with the dust jacket.
___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full blue cloth over boards, gilt decoration on the front board and gilt lettering on the spine, tasteful Ex-Libris on the front pastedown of (Dr.) Bruce M. Kilgore, a noted conservationist, the volume "illustrated with 1023 original drawings" (black-and-white line drawings) per the title page; binding octavo size (8 3/4" by 6"), pagination: [1-2] 3-23, 24-24h, 25-1238. In the original dust jacket with black lettering on the front panel and spine, price of $5.00 printed at the top fore-edge corner of the front panel, small line drawing on the spine, both flaps and the back panel blank.
___CONDITION: Volume near fine, the boards clean, straight corners with minimal rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and other than Dr. Kilgore's Ex-Libris free of prior owner markings; some light dustiness to the text block edges and very light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. The dust jacket very good with all component parts present and attached, light overall edgewear mostly at the head and tail of the spine, a short closed tear at the top of the front panel (not intruding upon the printed price), and the spine sunned.
