Arthur Neve of Kashmir

London: Church Missionary Society, 1926. First Edition. Hardcover. First printing, duodecimo size, 144 pp. Near fine / good +. Item #210121025

Arthur Neve (1859-1919) served in Kashmir for over thirty years as a Christian medical missionary; during WWI he returned to England to work in the military hospitals in Brighton and France.

In addition to his medical work, Neve was an avid mountaineer; one of his works, "Thirty Years in Kashmir", recounts expeditions to Nun Kun, Nanga Parbat, etc. Neve would return to Kashmir in 1919, where he would shortly thereafter die and was laid to rest.

This work rather uncommon, as of this writing only one copy found online; this the only copy with a dust jacket.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in grey textured paper over boards, black lettering debossed on the front and spine, full-colour frontispiece entitled "A Wayside Audience - Dr. A. Neve and Mr. Gustafson in the Shiga Valley"; duodecimo size (7.5" by 5"), pagination: [i-viii] 1-136. in the publisher's dust jacket, the front with an illustration of three men with a tent, the mountains looming in the background, in navy blue ink, navy blue lettering and ruled border; the rest of the jacket without printing.

___CONDITION: Volume near fine, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, and the interior is clean and bright; the sole prior owner marking we see a pencilled name on the front free endpaper, light sunning to the head of the spine, and some foxing to the text block edges. The dust jacket much better than good and could likely be graded very good; all component pieces present and attached, overall light soiling, overall light edgewear most noticeable at the head of the spine, apparently originally pink in colour much of the jacket has faded to a light yellow, and some light soil to the verso of the jacket along the top margins; still a rather nice example of a scarce dust jacket.

___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.
