A series of representations of some of the finest examples of Chinese pottery and porcelain at the time from the British Museum and private collections, with high-quality prints in both color and monochrome. Plates are accompanied by descriptions printed on the tissue guards by Robert Lockhart Hobson (1872-1941), the head of the department of ceramics and ethnography at the British Museum and one of the founding members of the Oriental Ceramic Society, and Arthur Lonsdale (1881-1960) author of several books on Chinese ceramics and pottery.

___DESCRIPTION: Half parchment and decorative Japanese paper covered boards, lettered in gilt to backstrip, top-edge gilt, 152 plates printed to recto only (192 images) in both color and black and white with lettered tissue guards; quarto size (11.25" by 8.75"), pagination: [i-iv] v-xx [1-2] 3-20 [21] [152 plates] [152 tissue guards], limited edition of 1500 copies, this number 591.

___CONDITION: A very good copy, internally bright, complete with all plates and guards, square text block with solid hinges (previously professionally repaired); some minor rubbing at edges, a bit of foxing and age-toning to backstrip, corners, and a few leaves of the text - overall better than very good, a stunning example of printing from this period.
