London: James Cochrane and Co., 1831. Cruikshank, George. Leather. Volumes I and II (Novelist's Library), sixmo size, 882 pp., in a custom binding. Near Fine. Item #SB1987

A stand-alone story, this story was part of the Novelist's Library (Vol. III). Edited by Roscoe Tobias, Esq. (1791-1871), himself an author and translator; his own works include mostly travel memoirs.

"The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle", by Tobias Smollett (1721-1771) was published in 1751, revised and reissued in 1758; it is the story of the fortunes and misfortunes of the egotistical dandy Peregrine Pickle, and it provides a comic and caustic portrayal of 18th-century European society - the story influenced later authors such as Charles Dickens and George Orwell (info from Wikipedia).
