Softcover book **WRITTEN IN FRENCH** with accompanying patterns, both enclosed in the original cardboard box. ***THE AUTHOR/EDITOR: Therese Maria Josepha de Dillmont (1846-1890) was an Austrian needleworker and writer; she owned a string of shops in European capitals and she was "one of the most important pioneers in the international and multicultural enterprise of hobby needlework in the late nineteenth century." She studied needlework, started her own embroidery school with her sister, and wrote several books on needlework and laces, which pulled together thousands of textile designs from many different countries including Egypt, Bulgaria, Turkey and China; her work is still available today, in seventeen different languages (info from Wikipedia). ***DESCRIPTION: Book is enclosed in cardboard covers front and back, with a dark green cloth spine; cardboard covers are black with white embossed lettering and designs, entirely in French, is replete with black and white illustrations of different lace patterns in process; pagination: 184 pages plus 8 pages of just illustrations of patterns, plus 12 pages of publisher's ads. The patterns are folded and enclosed in a paper case, with black lettering on the front and spine. The cardboard box enclosing both is stapled on the top and bottom, and has a decorative pastedown on one side in rust with white lettering and decorations, it mirrors the front wrap of the book. ***CONDITION: Book is near fine with a slight amount of edgewear and a prior owner bookplate on the verso of the front wrap, otherwise clean and free of all other prior owner markings; the patterns are still in their original paper casing, we have not removed them for inspection as they appear to have never been used. The cardboard box enclosing both is near fine, with some overall wear and a shallow scrape on the pastedown. ***POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply, please contact seller for details. ***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
