Published in 1993 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first publication of this timeless classic. Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" has been printed and performed on film and the stage countless times, and this version, with illustrations by Ida Applebroog (b. 1929) pays homage to earlier illustrators of this classic while making familiar depictions of Scrooge, the ghosts, and Tiny Tim into new works of art in her own style (n. b., from the web site of the Arion Press).

___DESCRIPTION: Full evergreen cloth, inset paper paste-down on the front board with an illustration of a couple dancing beneath a sprig of mistletoe, red paper spine label with gilt lettering, title page in red, green and black with a small vignette of a settle by a fireplace, chapter titles in green, decorative initial capitals in red, illustrations by Ida Applebroog throughout, both full-page and in-text; types Gloucester Old Style and Cheltenham Bold, on Rives mouldmade paper, oblong quarto size (10" by 13"), pagination: [1] 2-115 [1 colophon], one of 200 copies (plus 26 NFS), this number 153, signed by Ida Applebroog on the colophon. Loosely laid in is the prospectus, twelve pages, stapled with six illustrations from the book. Matching publisher's slipcase is also bound in green cloth, the front and back covered with red paper, matching spine label of red paper with gilt lettering.

___CONDITION: Fine, with the binding clean and smooth, the front pastedown perfect and unrubbed, a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. The prospectus is near fine, the front and back pages have several shallow creases. The slipcase is also fine, strong and sturdy, the paper sides perfect, no rubbing or edgewear.
