Dreiser is considered one of American's greatest naturalists for his movement away from the emphasis on the morals of the Victorian era to focus on realism and the base instincts of humanity. This novel countered social and moral norms of the time by presenting his characters without judgement (N. B. Info from Wikipedia). ***DESCRIPTION: Bound in half natural linen with brown cloth sides, gilt-stamped brown leather spine label, top edge gilt, fore-edge rough-cut, pictorial title page, illustrated with brown crayon drawings by Reginald Marsh; set in linotype Janson on Worthy special paper; pagination: (i) - xiv, (i-ii), 1-387, colophon (388); 10.5" tall; signed by illustrator Reginald Marsh; Limited Edition no. 113 of 1500; original glassine wrapper present. Slipcase is covered with brown paper with a cream label on the spine with brown lettering. ***CONDITION: Book is in fine condition with flawless binding, the corners are perfectly straigh with no rubbing, the text block is strong and square, the hinges are solid, and the volume is entirely free of prior owner markings. The glassine wrapper is in very good minus condition with minor overall edgewear, with a few small triangular chips.
