Paris: Louis Larmat, (1951). Wraps. Octavo size, 435 pp., in French. Very good +. Item #CNJL279

The wine region of Champagne in France is world-renowned for its production of sparkling wine, and this volume details the history and production of wine from the region; written by Georges Chappaz (1874-1953), who was the honorary Inspector General of Agriculture and a member of the Academy of Agriculture in France. This is the second part of a larger set, but stands on its own for the Champagne region.

The book contains numerous black-and-white photographs of the grape-growing and wine-making processes, as well as a four-colour map showing were various wines are produced in Champagne. Chappaz includes a myriad of information on the making of wine, such as the climate and typography of the region, divisions within the vineyards, and old cultural practices in Champagne.
