Baton Rouge: Louisiana State University Press, 1987-1991. Hardcover. Five volumes (complete), octavo size, approx. 1865 total pp. Fine / fine. Item #CNJL2429
Eric Voegelin (1901-1985) sought to "create a comprehensive philosophy of man, society, and history." A Ph.D., he fled his home in Austria when the Nazis annexed it; he ultimately was a professor at several important universities, and finally served "as a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace" (n.b., info and quotes from the online Encyclopedia Britannica).
Best know for his work on the philosophy of history, this work, "Order and History" (originally published 1956-1974) is considered one of his principal works. Originally published in four volumes, this version, published by the Louisiana State University Press, was issued in five volumes: Vol. One, "Israel and Revelation"; Vol. Two, "The World of the Polis"; Vol. Three, "Plato and Aristotle"; Vol. Four, "The Ecumenic Age"; and Vol. Five, "In Search of Order".
While individual volumes can easily be found, complete sets are unaccountably scarce in the marketplace.
