Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher, cultural critic, poet, philologist, and Latin and Greek scholar whose work has exerted a profound influence on Western philosophy and modern intellectual history (n.b., info from Wikipedia). This work the "Critical Complete Edition" published in Berlin by deGruyter. Per the publisher, "The publication of Section IX signifies the completion of the Critical Edition of Friedrich Nietzsche's Complete Works."

This set is comprised of the first ten volumes: three octavo-size volumes (the third with a CD in a pocket at the rear pastedown), and seven elephant folio-size volumes (these also with a CD) numbered "IX 1" through "IX 10". The publishers has issued subsequent volumes, as of this writing the set encompasses fourteen volumes.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full gold cloth over boards, debossed blue and brown lettering on front boards and spines, publisher's name and/or ISBN labels on the back boards, blue ribbon markers in each volume; the three octavo volumes measure 9 1/2" by 6 7/8", and the seven elephant folio volumes measure 15 3/4" by 11 1/4"; pagination varies, many of the volumes with mulitple sections which are separately paginated, the approximate page counts are: Vol. 1 - 194, Vol. 2 - 194, Vol. 3 - 248, Vol. 4 - 396, Vol. 5 - 290, Vol. 6 - 284, Vol. 7 - 327, Vol. 8 - 190, Vol. 9 - 309, and Vol. 10 - 286; please note that ALL TEXT IS IN GERMAN.

___CONDITION: The set is fine overall, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors are clean and bright, and the set is entirely free of prior owner markings; the few exceptions we noted to this grading are a very small pinhole to the cloth near the head of the spine in Vol. 6, a few very light, stray marks to the cloth binding on Vols. 5 and 9, some light bumping to the head of the spines of several volumes, and very ligh indentations to the board edges of a few volumes (these last two likely a result of the weight of the volumes).
