This is the second bibliography of Bird & Bull Press; the initial twenty one year bibliography went out of print very quickly and after only nine years Henry Morris explains why another was nessecary, " [Bird & Bull] published more books during this nine year period than during all of the preceding twenty one years." Once again, rather than simply a straightforward bibliography this also includes anecdotal material, ephemeral items, notes and comments of a "more personal nature" (n.b. from the foreword).
This is No. 299 of 300 copies, accompanied by a portfolio containing various pages of earlier books, prospectuses and assorted ephemera including a reproduced copper token similar to those used by bookmakers from the 17th to 19th centuries; the book and portfolio are housed in a 10" x 13" clamshell box with a leather spine label.
___DESCRIPTION: Quarter-bound in grey morocco leather and tips, handmade maroon paste-paper over boards with a leather spine label. Composed in Van Dijck types and printed on dampened handmade Bird and Bull watermarked paper. Cloth-covered and lined clamshell box with morocco spine label, houses both the volume as well as a portfolio of ephemera which is also cloth covered; quarto size(11 1/8" x 8"), pagination: [1-6] 7-103 [1 page blank, colophon]
___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean boards, straight corners without any rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, (note that there are a few light spots of scattered foxing throughout) and entirely free of prior owner markings. The clamshell box as well as the ephemera folder are both fine and without blemish. Ephemeral items are mostly fine with a few unintended creases along edges.
