Dijon: L. Damidot, . Hardcover. Troisieme Edition, large octavo size, 367 pp., in a custom binding with original wraps bound in, entirely in French. Near fine. Item #CNJL2261
The Burgundy region of France has been renowned for centuries for both red and white wines, blended mostly from Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes; often produced in small quantities, their reputation is such that often Burgundy wines are among the most expensive in the world.
This book (note that all text is in French) explores these wines, with the first section devoted to its history ("Historique du Vin de Bourgogne") and the second to its many regions ("Les grands vins de Bourgogne"). Replete with maps, black-and-white reproductions of photographs, illustrations and charts, it is a grand tour through one of the most famous of the French wine-producing regions as it was directly post-WWII, thus remarkably free of modern buildings and highways, a true glimpse into how Burgandy appeared in the 1940s.
