Anne Carson (b. 1950) is one of today's most highly-regarded poets; a New York Times reviewer wrote: "In the small world of people who keep up with contemporary poetry...[Carson] has been cutting a large swath, inciting both envy and admiration."
She has garnered multiple awards during her career, including "fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and the American Academy in Berlin. She has also received the Lannan Literary Award, the Pushcart Prize, and the Griffin Poetry Prize" (n.b., above quotes from the web site of the Poetry Foundation).
