J. Martin Pitts collaborated with The Old Stile Press on eight books over the years; during the course of the collaboration becoming good friends with printer and publisher Nicolas McDowall. This edition was published as a loving memorial to the artist after his death in 2002, with a commentary about the man and his work by Martin's partner, Chris Newitt, and Nicolas McDowall.

The book includes many images, including scenes, illustrations from published works, and studies depicting male figures; largely cut or etched lino, and some drawings reproduced as line blocks. Accompanying the illustrations are portions of text or poetry, explanations of the illustrations when called for, and at the end "Martin's Last Journal" which opens with the entry for January 29, 2002 after he's received the diagnosis (brain tumor) and carries us through the last month of Martin's life. Tipped in at the colophon is a colour photo of Pitts and Newitt on holiday, with the sigatures of Newitt and Nicolas McDowall.
