Dame Jean Iris Murdoch (1919-1999) was a prolific author whose novels often explored good and evil, sexual relationships, morality, and the power of the unconscious.

This work, "The Message to the Planet", explores several of those themes, including the relationship of a master to his disciple, the "dilemma of the religious leader with power and his relationship to suffering", and "the egoism and selfishness inherent in erotic love" (n.b., info and quotes from Wiki).

___DESCRIPTION: Special binding of quarter brown linen cloth over marbled paper boards, gilt lettering stamped on the spine ("London Limited Editions" along with author and title), signed by the author on the limitation page; octavo size (9 7/16" by 6 1/2"), pagination: [i-xii] 1-563. In a plain glassine wrapper.

___CONDITION: Fine, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; other than some faint toning to the pages, as new. Glassine wrapper near fine, clean with light wear.
