___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full black cloth over boards, gold lettering stamped on the spine, decorative endpapers showing various scientific devices in black on gold paper, the volume replete with reproductions of photographs, both colour and black-and-white; quarto size (10 7/8" by 8 5/8"), pagination: [i-iv] v-xxvii [1, photograph] 1-700. With the publisher's dust jacket showing the price of GBP 60.00 on the lower front flap, photograph on both panels of the German Prunkuhr clock, circa 1698, summary of book on front flap and short bio and photo of Cecil Clutton on the back flap.

___CONDITION: Volume fine overall, with clean boards, the corner without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; top front corner bumped but not rubbed, slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, else fine. Dust jacket near fine, not price-clipped, clean and entire, a bit of modest edgewear and a few spots of light wear, else fine.
