St. Augustine (b. Aureliuis Augustinus in 354 CE) is one of the best-known and most important of the Christian Church Fathers. His "Confessions", written after his conversion to Christianity, is considered the first Western Christian autobiography written and "was an influential model for Christian writers throughout the Middle Ages" (n.b., quote from Wiki).
This publication by The Limited Editions Club features illustrations by French painter Edy Legrand (1892-1970), who contributed illustrations to many books for the LEC. For this work he produced twenty-two paintings which were reproduced for publication in as many as seven colours.
