San Francisco: The Arion Press, 1993. Limited Edition. Hardcover. One of 250 copies, sixteenmo size, 42 pp., with prospectus and signed letter from Andrew Hoyem. Fine. Item #CNBR174
This publication by the Arion Press is a faithful reproduction of the "third book published in the English language on the subject of hunting birds on the wing" (per the publisher's preface); not much is known about its author, George Edie, who first published the book in 1772 under the title "A Treatise on English Shooting", and again in 1775 under the current title, after changes in the hunting laws. This volume serves as a lovely homage to eighteenth-century English typography as well as early English sporting memorabilia.
