This fifty-second limited edition from The Allen Press. A spiritual romance themed around a man's fight to attain eternal life, with parables and stories to spark the imagination. Based on the original text written around 100 A.D. in India, this version from the text translated and printed by William Caxton sometime around 1484, and which forms part of his magnum opus, "The Golden Legend".
___DESCRIPTION: Original blue-gray cloth stamped with the title in vermilion at upper board and backstrip, vermilion endpapers, hand-colored pictorial title-page in vermilion, purple and mustard, two full-page engravings, four in text, numerous initials (many hand-coloured by Dorothy Allen), running headlines in vermilion; Menhart Uncial and Garamond Bold types, handmade all-rag paper watermarked especially for the press by Richard de Bas mill in France, quarto size (10.75" by 7.25"), [1-8] 9-52  pp., limited edition, one of 140 copies, with original prospectus, in a clear acetate dust jacket.
___CONDITION: A fine copy, the covers clean and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. The acetate jacket also fine, clean and without wear; the prospectus fine with only original folds.
