London: The Reed Pale Press [printed by the Da La More Press], 1934. Limited Edition. Vellum. No. 88 of 250 copies, quarto size, pp. Near fine. Item #CNBR097
A lovely, and uncommon, printing of the Book of Ruth; read during the holiday of Shevuot, with some contemporary readings viewing it as a celebration of female solidarity and strength.
Printed by the De La More Press in an edition of 250 copies, of which ten copies were printed on vellum and the remainder printed on hand-made paper. Three bindings were available: the ten copies printed on vellum, and twenty of the copies printed on paper were bound in morocco; of the remaining 220 copies printed on paper, one hundred were bound in full vellum, of which this copy is one, and 120 were bound in quarter forril. All the copies were handsewn and bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe.
___DESCRIPTION: Original full vellum bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, red ribbon ties, stamped in gilt on spine, yapped edges, title-page in red and black, gothic black letter, with red initials and pilcrows; on handmade paper, quarto size (9" by 7"), 19 unnumbered pages, one of 250 copies, this number 88.
___CONDITION: A near fine copy, the vellum binding is clean and smooth, the binding strong, internally bright and complete, and entirely free of prior owner markings; the vellum is slightly bowed as usual, and the ribbon ties are lacking at fore-edge, still a near fine copy and unaccountably scarce in the marketplace.
___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply; please inquire for details.
