Council Bluffs, Iowa: The Yellow Barn Press, 1986. DePol, John. Limited First Edition. Hardcover. Number 55 of 150 copies, octavo size, pp. Near fine. Item #CNBR079
A selection of paper pattern designs engraved in wood by American book illustrator John DePol (1913-2004), an American wood engraver out of New York. Throughout his prolific career he has collaborated with numerous private presses on limited editions, and has also produced many books through his own Endgrain Press. Although DePol is best known as a wood engraver for illustrated books, he also has experience in etching and lithography.
In the Summer of 1984, printer Neil Shaver was visiting with DePol, who showed him several dozen examples of his patterned paper. Shaver was impressed by what he saw and felt the patterns should be available to the wider community of designers and book artists, resulting in this edition. The designs were reproduced by zinc engraving in the original colors.
