The Christmas Publication for 1967, reproducing in colour twenty full-page lithographs from the celebrated San Francisco weekly, "The Wasp", which during the final decades of the nineteenth century alternately entertained and scandalized its readers with satirical political and social cartoons, the first cartoons to be printed in coloor. The cartoons drew a talented group of artists, and are illustrate many aspects of California life from the 1870s-90s.

___DESCRIPTION: Full grey and white cloth with title in gilt to upper board and backstrip, title in red and black, first two words of the introduction in red, twenty numbered plates (five of which are two-page spreads) in colour; Bell monotype type, machine made paper, folio size (14.25" by 10.25"), pagination: [i-vi] 1-15 [16-96] [1 colophon], limited edition of 450 copies; with original prospectus slipped in, one large sheet folded to four pages, the interior pages one of the two-page spreads, in colour.

___CONDITION: A fine copy; the covers clean and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and enitrely free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. A wonderful presentation into the political and social life of the San Francisco of over a century ago.
