Hetch Hetchy Valley; Report of Advisory Board of Army Engineers to the Secretary of the Interior on Investigations Relative to Sources of Water Supply for San Francisco and Bay Communities, February 19, 1913

Washington: Government Printing Office, 1913. Wraps. In original wraps, octavo size, 146 pp., with two folding map. Very good. Item #23010213

"Hetch Hetchy was the first major battle of the environmental movement. It pitted a powerful city against a dedicated group of conservationists. It pitted Gifford Pinchot, America’s first forester, against John Muir, America’s legendary conservationist" (n.b., from the web site of More Than Just Parks). The battle was indeed monumental, with ardent supporters, even today, advocating a return of the valley to its former natural state.

This government report "[c]onsiders [the] possiblity of other sources and so compares their merits with those of the Hetch Hetchy project" (n.b., from the bibliography). Our copy printed for the House of Representatives, 63rd Congress, 1st Session, Document No. 54.

While well represented in OCLC, we find no copies online as of this writing and no auction records (RBH).
