Recollections of Frontier Life

A relatively scarce account by a woman of "frontier life in different localities...The climate, the soil, society, schools and churches, in many places in Kentucky, Illinois and Nebraska are described, and I hope it will interest all persons who are looking for facts instead of fiction..." (n.b., from the Preface, written by the author).

Mrs. Elizabeth A. Roe was the wife of Dr. John Roe, who worked to establish Methodism in the Rock River, Illinois, area.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full brown cloth over boards, debossed decorative borders in blind on both boards, gilt lettering on the front board and spine, peach-coloured endpapers, frontis portraits of both Dr. and Mrs. Roe with facsimile signatures below; octavo size (7 7/8" by 5 3/4"), pagination: [1-7] 8-295.

___CONDITION: Overall very good: the interior near fine in a good binding. The cloth boards relatively clean and unworn, gently bumped corners with minimal rubbing, a strong, text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and the volume entirely free of prior owner markings; some silverfishing and a few light spots of soil on the boards and the text block cocked, still overall a very good copy.
