Publication 193 from The Book Club of California; the leaves for this book had been at the Club for several years, as David Magee had worked on a plan for this leaf book. They were "rediscovered" and the book was finally published in 1990.

"The Rhemes New Testament", also known as the Douai Bible, was an important and influential Biblical text of the sixteenth-century, a period known for numerous new translations of scriptural texts, as it was the first Roman Catholic New Testament in English. This lively history of its conception, publication and reception is supplemented with a leaf from an incomplete copy of the original edition of 1582: pp. 153-154, the pages from the Gospel According to St. Luke, Chapter VI, verses 31 - 49, with Annotations.

With the publisher's plain white paper dust jacket

___CONDITION: A fine copy, the covers clean and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. Prospectus fine overall, without any noticeable wear, clean and bright; the dust jacket better than very good, with light overall soiling and a bit of edgewear including a few very short closed tears.
