Lynbrook, New York: Charnel House, 1992. Richardson, Peter. Limited Edition. Hardcover. No. 40 of 350 copies (plus 26 lettered copies), octavo size, 577 pp., in slipcase, signed by Tim Powers. Fine. Item #21102202

Historical events are often reimagined through works of fiction, but few writers bring the creative force and eloquent style of Tim Powers (b. 1952), who incorporates supernatural elements into his stories as motivations for the characters.

This work, "Last Call", draws on the historical character Bugsy Siegel and the development of the casinos in Las Vegas, while incorporating threads from the "Fisher King" legends. The story features "a detailed magic system, here based on divinatory tarot" (n.b., info and quote from Wiki).

In 1993 it would win both the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel and the Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel.
