In the novel "St. Ives", Stevenson tells the tale of a Napoleanic soldier who is captured and imprisoned in Britain. The soldier is actually of royal birth and falls in love with a woman while imprisoned. He eventually escapes and has various adventures before reuniting with his true love.

Stevenson was in ill health and actually dictated the first thirty chapters to his stepdaughter, the final four chapters were written by Arthur Quiller-Couch (n.b., per Wiki).

___DESCRIPTION: Grey cloth over boards, title and author in gilt to front board, title, author and publisher in gilt to spine, publisher's device blind debossed to rear board; duodecimo size (7 5/8" by 5 5/8"), pagination: [i-v] vi [vii-viii], [1] 2-312.

___CONDITION: Overall a bit better than very good. The textblock is solid and hinges are sound, free of prior owner markings, slightest of wear to joints, slight wear to head and tail of spine, corners are square with slightest of wear, text block slightly cocked; still overall quite a nice copy.
