The second "Spenser" novel, by Robert Brown Parker (1932-2010), who bequeathed to us many of our favourite mystery/detective stories; forty novels written about Spenser, the "the wise-cracking, street-smart Boston private-eye"; nine novels featuring Jesse Stone; and six with Sunny Randall.

This volume with the signature of Robert Parker on a special bookplate mounted to the front pastedown, with an illustration of a smoking gun and his name in green lettering above his signature.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full black cloth over boards, debossed illustration in silver stamped onto the front cover (of a ransom note), silver lettering on the spine, top edge stained grey, grey endpapers, bookplate with Robert Parker's signature in black ink mounted onto the front pastedown, publisher's device for "Midnight Novel of Suspense" on the title page, First Printing stated on the copyright page; octavo size (8 1/2" by 5 3/4"), pagination: [i-vi] 1-185. Dust jacket shows the original price of $5.95, the front panel with red decorations, blue, black and red lettering on both front and spine, front flap with a summary of the book, back flap with a short author bio and a black-and-white reproduction of a photograph of Parker, review blurbs on the back panel.

___CONDITION: Fine overall, with clean boards, straight corners absolutely without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; a very slight slant to the text block, else fine. The unclipped dust jacket near fine, the red on the front and spine unfaded, clean; a few very light spots of edgewear including a miniscule chip to the top of the front panel (see pictures and request more if needed) and light toning to the jacket.
