Stephen Edwin King (b. 1947) is likely the most popular author of horror and sci-fi in modern times, having authored over sixty novels (many of which have been adapted to the screen), and being the recipient of numerous awards including World Fantasy, British Fantasy, and Bram Stoker, in addition to many more. With illustrations by Ned Dameron (born: Edward Palfrey IV)), best known for his work in the fantasy genre; he did illustrations for "Dungeons and Dragons" as well as some reprints of Edgar Rice Burrough's works (n.b., info from the web sites of Stephen King and Wow Art).
The "Dark Tower" series is comprised of eight books (currently), a fascinating blend of horror, dark fantasy, and westerns. King drew his initial inspiration from Robert Browning's poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" as well as drawing from J.R.R. Tolkien and the Arthurian Legends. This, "The Wastelands", is the third book in the series and continues the tale begun with "The Gunslinger" and "The Drawing of the Three". This volume is the first trade edition, there was also a deluxe edition issued at the same time.
