Wall Street by the Back Door

New York: Wall Street Library Publishing Co., (1901). First Edition. Hardcover. Sixmo size, 129 pp, inscribed by Thomas D. Richardson. Very good. Item #19113001

Filled with a humourous take on the Wall Street of over 100 years ago, this book includes chapters such as "Inside Information - Many Facts Not Generally Known" and "The Real Manipulator - Reasoning by Reducing a Position to an Absurdity".

Inscribed by the author "To Col. A.R. Blakely with the regard of the author, Thomas D. Richardson". Colonel Blakely (1841-1908), from the little we could find online, was an Irish immigrant who (oddly) served in the Confederate Army.

With nine caricature illustrations by Homer C. Davenport (1867-1912), a well-known illustrator in his day who worked mostly as a political cartoonist; he began his career with the "San Francisco Examiner" and eventually moved East. In addition to being a successful illustrator he also acquired and bred Arabian horses, bringing 27 of these magnificent animals to the United States where the breed was just becoming established.
