Edward Gorey (1925-2000) is well-known and well-loved for his poisonously funny picture books which are complex, humorous, serious, and provocative. His vast body of work includes over one hundred books written by himself, as well as having illustrated works (and dust jackets) by many well-known authors such as T. S. Eliot, Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll, H. G. Wells, and Virginia Woolf (n.b., info from the Edward Gorey House website).
___DESCRIPTION: Set of three hardcover books issued without dust jackets; each volume an oblong duodecimo size (6.75" by 7"), all three volumes signed by Gorey on the title pages, with his printed name lined out (per usual). In publisher's olive green and mustard yellow slipcase illustrated by Gorey on each facet of the slipcase, with the original price sticker of $5.95 on one side.
"The Gashlycrumb Tinies" is bound in olive paper with black lettering on the front and spine, black and yellow illustration on the front cover and black and white illustration on the rear, unpaginated with  pp., text and illustrations on recto only of each page.
"The Insect God" is bound in yellow paper with black lettering on the front and spine, black illustration of a large bug on the front and back covers, illustrations on each page, unpaginated with  pp., text and illustrations on recto only of each page.
"The West Wing" is bound in white paper with black lettering on the front and spine, black and white illustrations of a building and the moon wrap around the back to front, pagination: [i-vi], 1-29 (printed on rectos only), final page numbered "U" .
___CONDITION: Each volume near fine; the boards clean, strong square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors are clean and bright, and the set is entirely free of prior owner markings; some light sunning to the spines, "Gashlycrumb Tinies" with very light rubbing at the spine, "Insect God" with one very small spot of soil on the front board, most of the corners also with a modicum of rubbing. Slipcase near fine, strong and sturdy, with a few very light areas of rubbing.
