Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882) is arguably one of the most important scientists ever to publish a work or theory, so much so that he is buried in Westminster Abbey alongside the other greats of science, literature and politics. It was during his five-year adventure on the HMS "Beagle" that he both collected and began writing the theories which would later develop into several published works, among them "On the Origin of Species" and "The Descent of Man". Interestingly, the word "evolution", which has created such furor in society - in the political arena, the religious and educational arenas - was first published in "The Descent of Man", before its appearance in the sixth edition of "The Origin of Species" (n.b., per Freeman, p. 129).
