One of Jane Austen's (1775-1817) enduring novels, "Emma" was the last book to be completed and published during Austen's lifetime; this publication by the Limited Editions Club is illustrated by German graphic designer Fritz Kredel (1900-1973), whose colourful drawings depict the engaging style and mannerisms of the characters that Austen so artfully describes.

___DESCRIPTION: Full grey cloth, embossed cameo portrait surrounded by gilt borders on the front board, gilt ornament and rules and dark maroon leather label with gilt lettering on the spine, top edge stained brown, grey endpapers, title page in black and light purple with oval vignette illustration, full-page colour illustrations printed on tan paper by Fritz Kredel throughout; monotype Bell, Curtis laid paper, octavo size (9.5" by 6.5"), pagination: [i-iv] v-xv [xvi-xviii] [1-2] 3-427 [428-429] [1 colophon], one of 1500 copies, this number 351, signed by Fritz Kredel on the colophon. With announcement, one sheet, and the LEC Monthly Newsletter, one sheet folded once to make four pages, with horizontal crease for mailing, tucked into LEC envelope. In a glassine wrapper, housed in a slipcase covered in grey paper, with cream paper spine label with light purple ornaments and lettering.

___CONDITION: Volume is fine, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, the binding is tight with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. The announcement and LEC Monthly Letter are fine, clean and without wear. The glassine wrapper is fine, clean, without wear but for the barest hint at the top edge of the front flap. The slipcase is near fine, strong and sturdy, clean but for the hint of a stray mark or two, without wear, one bottom corner gently bumped, else fine.
