Prominent playwright Lillian Hellman (1905-1984), best known for successful plays such as "The Children's Hour" and "Toys in the Attic", brings her forceful literary style to these two memoirs. "Scoundrel Time", Hellman's third memoir, tells of her experience being brought in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) during the Joseph McCarthy Era, and in particular her relationship with writer and activist Dashiell Hammett (1894-1961), author of "The Maltese Falcon", and his imprisonment and subsequent blacklisting.

Both volumes signed by Lillian Hellman on the limitation page at the front of each book. Each volume in publisher's acetate wrapper.

___CONDITION: Both volumes are near fine, with clean boards, straight corners with no rubbing, strong, square text blocks with solid hinges, the interiors are clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; both volumes with sunning to the spine, head and tail of "Scoundrel Time" and the tail of "Pentimento" are very gently bumped, else fine. The publisher's acetate wrappers are near fine, clean, with light overall scuffing, "Scoundrel Time" with a small (quarter-inch) closed tear at the head of the spine, "Pentimento" with some loss to the head and tail of the spine and to the rear panel.
