This volume is a collaboration between renowned photographer Ansel Adams (1902-1984) and photography critic Nancy Newhall (1908-1974); Newhall, a conservationist and writer who often worked with photographers such as Adams and Edward Weston, writes accompanying texts to Adams' breathtaking landscapes, a celebration of the stunning scenery of the American West.
___DESCRIPTION: Full blue cloth, gilt lettering on the front board and spine, grey endpapers with maps of the Trans-Mississippi Territory in black, frontispiece a black-and-white photograph of Old Faithful by Ansel Adams, black-and-white photographs by Adams, many full-page and some double-page, throughout; folio size (12.25" by 9.25"), pagination: [1-5] 6-95, inscribed by Ansel Adams on the half-title page. In a paper dust jacket with black-and-white photograph by Adams wrapping around the panels and spine, white lettering on the front panel and spine, author and illustrator bios on the rear panel, a quote from the book on the front flap, and a list of books from the publisher on the rear flap; the dust jacket is unclipped, but there is no price.
___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean boards, straight corners with no rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; light sunning to the top and bottom edges of the boards, else fine. The dust jacket is very good plus, unclipped, clean overall with faint soiling to the rear panel, overall edgewear, small chips to the head of the spine and corners.
