The trials and adventures of sea fishing have long attracted writers to tell their stories, and here Kirk Lombard, San Francisco-based writer and fisherman, delves into his experiences with, and love for, the monkeyface eel; the book is an eccentric blend of memoir, poetry, and recipes. Illustrating the book is Leighton Kelly, who creates exquisite linocuts filled with raw detail, depicting both the author and the fish that so fascinates him.
A separate chapbook contains a long poem as well as numerous haikus, often referenced in the book, written by the author on the same subject, a companion piece to the book.
