Sauk City: Arkham House, 1971. First Edition. Hardcover. First printing, one of 2000 copies, octavo size, 424 pp. Fine / near fine. Item #19031709
This collection of poems by Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961) was "[p]roduced by Smith during September 1944 on into early December 1949 [and] [d]elivered to Arkham House in December 1949" (per Sidney-Fryer), but was not published until 1971, after Smith's death. Smith was a prolific writer, best known for his contributions to the fantasy and horror story magazine "Weird Tales", alongside such writers as H. P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, and his contributions to the Cthulhu Mythos; his poetry, though not "weird fiction", has elements of fantasy and other worlds working through the text.
