Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961) was a prolific writer, best known for his contributions to the fantasy and horror story magazine "Weird Tales", alongside such writers as H. P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, and his contributions to the Cthulhu Mythos; "Lost Worlds" is a collection of Smith's fantasy, science fiction, and horror short stories, his second book published by Arkham House.
The dust jacket features a photograph by E. Burt Trimpey of some carvings made by Smith himself; beginning in the 1930s, Smith developed an interest in visual art, particularly sculptures and carvings from rocks such as soapstone (n. b., info from Wikipedia).

___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean boards, straight corners, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; slight rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners, light toning to the free endpapers, else fine. The dust jacket is very good plus, unclipped, clean, with light edge wear to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners, toning to the fore- and top edges, and to the interior of the spine, and small creases to the top corners.
