Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961) was a prolific writer, best known for his contributions to the fantasy and horror story magazine "Weird Tales", alongside such writers as H. P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, and his contributions to the Cthulhu Mythos; "Out of Space and Time" is a collection of Smith's horror, science fiction, and fantasy short stories, and his first book published by Arkham House, a company formed by science fiction writers August Derleth and Donald Wandrei, originally to publish hardcover editions of Lovecraft's work.
The dust jacket art is by Hannes Bok, a pseudonym for artist and science fiction writer Wayne Francis Woodard (1914-1964), who created a myriad of macabre illustrations for Arkham House publications as well as science fiction magazines such as "Weird Tales" and "Other Worlds".
