Greek orator and statesmen Demosthenes (384-322 BCE) eloquently argues in this book against the reign of Philip II of Macedon; he praises the greatness of Athens and advocates resistance of Macedonian rule over the Greek states. Through these orations, Demosthenes demonstrates his merit as a rhetorician, with "his steadfastness of purpose, his sincerity, his clear and pungent argument, and his severe control of language" (n. b., quote from the website of Harvard University).
