Boston: Estes and Lauriat, 1895. Limited Edition. Hardcover. No. 183 of 1000, twelve volumes (complete), octavo size, 4133 total pp., Edition de Grand Luxe. Very good. Item #18121203

The poetry of Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) has had prodigious influence on writers and artists for generations; best known for his short lyrical verses, Tennyson wrote poems on a wide array of subjects, including medieval and Greek characters, elegies, battles, and nature; he also wrote many verses in honour of national events during his tenure as Poet Laureate of Great Britain and Ireland. His poems are much beloved and are still often quoted today, and his medieval and mythological subject matter inspired many painters, particularly those of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

This twelve-volume set includes Tennyson's best-known works, including "Locksley Hall", "Ulysses", "Lady of Shallot", "In Memoriam A.H.H.", "Idylls of the King", and many, many more, as well as some of his dramatic works; each volume also contains etchings and engravings by numerous artists, bringing to life the content and characters and complementing the vividness of Tennyson's verses.
